A new devotional I purchased has illuminated issues that God wants to make in my relationship with Him as Father. Mark Medley’s “Trinity Trilogy” revealed some of the remnants of problem perspectives in my view of God the Father. (See it here: https://a.co/d/hS0IIDP)
I have been delivered of an orphan spirit and fear of abandonment due to my past. However, the tatters of wounds remained until very recently. The loss of my mother several years ago and then the death of my only older cousin both reemphasized my feelings of being left. Both my father and my ex-husband left their families. The second reinforced the feeling of being alone despite my close family members and friends. As God told me that I would learn this year what it means to truly be His child, those old wounds are becoming scars that continue to fade into nothingness.
Also from Mark’s teaching, I realized that I have projected those experiences on God, making Him in the image of men in my life. He is not like them because He cannot be unfaithful to Himself or to His people, including me. The feelings that project experience onto God are not tangible evidence of the truth. As I learned from a friend many years ago, decisions need to be based on evidence and data. The evidence is that the Holy Spirit dwells in me and is proof that I am His beloved child. The gifts He has given for me to share with others further confirm that He has adopted me and that I have chosen to be His child. I am not an orphan; I am a beloved daughter.
Have you chosen to be His child? We make this choice by accepting the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ for our sins. We ask Him to be Lord and Savior and are adopted into the family of God. You can go to God at any time and tell Him of your choice in the name of Jesus.
Galatians 4:5-7 God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir. Holy Bible, New Living Translation, copyright © 1996, 2004, 2015 by Tyndale House Foundation.
