My Father Holds My Hand

nasirkhan

A season of healing and rest is coming to fruition. God is restoring my image of Him as Father by healing the soul wounds I sustained as a child and as an adult. Walking forward with God means leaving those impressions left by some men in my life and trading them for the truth of the Word of God. I have a good Father who loves me and wants to care for me.

This year of uncertainty could leave a mark of fear of the future. Instead, I believe God has written the truth about His fatherhood on my soul to allow me to trust Him. He is leading me in the path that He planned before the beginning of time, knowing I would choose to receive the sacrifice of Jesus for my sins and to desire the close relationship with Him that He offers us all.

Awareness of His presence invaded my life many years ago as I chose to seek His face early each day, establishing a pattern of putting God first in my life. I am exceedingly glad our relationship never leaves my thoughts for more than a few moments. Crediting God with all the good I see and experience focuses my attention on Him and His ways. The more I seek Him, the more I know which way to turn at each crossroad.

I continue to fight an independent spirit birthed from an attitude that I would have to take care of myself. God wants those who choose to be His children to learn to depend on Him for all things; not that we do nothing, but that we trust He will lead us in the path that is best for us individually and collectively.

Recently, an online friend shared a scripture that spoke to my heart and soul in a new way. I have often held hands with my sons when they were young and with my grandchildren more recently, especially in parking lots where danger from vehicles may not be seen by little ones. This friend pointed out that His word promises that not only does my path matter to God, but that He guards me on it and holds my hand as I walk with Him through this life. As strange as this year has been, I believe learning to trust Him will guard my heart and mind for the remainder of my days. As David sang:

Psalm 37:23-24 If you are right with God, He strengthens you for the journey; the Eternal will be pleased with your life. And even though you trip up, you will not fall on your face because He holds you by the hand. The Voice Bible Copyright © 2012 Thomas Nelson, Inc.
