Habakkuk 2:3 “For the vision is yet for the appointed [future] time
It hurries toward the goal [of fulfillment]; it will not fail. Even though it delays, wait [patiently] for it, because it will certainly come; it will not delay.”
Fulfillment of a vision several years in the making was completed this weekend. Gateway Houston opened with its first public service Sunday morning. Being part of the fulfillment enriches my life and delights my soul and spirit. God has gathered a group of believers united in a vision to reach our community in a new way, in a new location. Led by Ethan and Elaine Fisher, we are meeting at 10 a.m. Sunday mornings at Travis High School off Texas 99 on Harlem Road. I first heard about the church launch last summer on Facebook, where I follow Pastor Robert Morris. Elaine is his daughter. I have learned much from Pastor Robert at a distance; the idea of being part of a church associated with the original Gateway was immediately attractive. Meeting Ethan and Elaine as well as Matt Osgood, executive pastor, in September led to my joining the Build Team. The seamless transition from Lakewood to Gateway confirmed my calling to a new church.
Since then, I have grown more excited about God’s plan for this new work for His kingdom. Worship pastor Leeland Mooring leads us and the team into the presence of God in a way I have not experienced since Kent Henry’s meetings more than 20 years ago. Praise and worship with this group of believers delights and refreshes my soul.
This initial fulfillment of the vision Ethan and Elaine received from God encourages me to continue to press forward in faith, knowing that the visions God has given me for my life and work for His kingdom will come to pass. They started with Him and will be fulfilled in His time. One devotion I read this week reminded me that anything but God’s appointed time for a dream to come to pass must always be wrong. He really knows best when to move and complete what He started. He has already enabled me to publish two books, and the third is started. The other dreams that exist only in my prayer life remain. Being a person in waiting is hard for me, but He is changing me and my ability to remain at peace grows with each season of waiting. I have not arrived, but I know that I will continue to make progress on my high places.
Habakkuk 3:19 The Lord God is my strength [my source of courage, my invincible army]; He has made my feet [steady and sure] like hinds’ feet And makes me walk [forward with spiritual confidence] on my high places [of challenge and responsibility].
