Many years ago, I accepted Jesus Christ as not only my Savior by my Lord. The adventure with Him is ongoing. I look forward to a future more awesome than the past. Making God Lord of my life means I don’t choose how my life unfolds. Trusting that He knows best is an ongoing lesson.
This Christmas is challenging. One of my dearest friends received word a family member is in hospice care. Another dear one from the past has a life-threatening diagnosis. Still other friends, like me, face a holiday season as single people. We encourage one another to make decisions in advance so the sting of being divorced is lessened when celebrating with family and friends.
The lordship of Christ is no guarantee of never-ending delight. Instead, He promises to walk with us through all the trials and joys that come our way. Psalm 23 tells us that even when we walk in hard places, He is with us to be our guide and comfort. He has kept His promises in that scripture to me, including giving me times of rest and refreshment. Indeed, He is what we need for all circumstances, all situations, all hope for the future.
As God told Isaiah, He sent us a Savior and His name includes:
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
