Resurrecting Hard Won Skills

Sergey Zolkin

My skills in editing and layout are going to be resurrected. I once served an editor at a 6-day a week newspaper. My last position there was wire editor including page one and the editorial page. I’m no longer seeking someone to do my layout work for my writing. Instead, God led me to purchase the necessary hardware and software to do it myself.

Searching for an at-home online income is an ongoing process and the new software just may be a way to accomplish two jobs. The first is to format my own writing for digital and print publication. The second is an income from doing it for other writers, especially those who self-publish. Did I forget that I have awesome editing and layout skills honed in the electric atmosphere of a daily newspaper? Maybe, or maybe letting ideas develop in God’s time makes succeeding His way more possible.

I belong to a couple of self-publishing forums, and finding editing and file conversion help seems to be a need that is unmet for a reasonable fee. If this software is as easy as others report, it may be my opportunity to meet those needs from other authors while having the creative control over my books that I will appreciate and value. Someone who already does it says it is easy to start by word of mouth and that she has no trouble getting business.

My new refurbished computer arrives this week. I will purchase the software and work first on my own books. Then, I plan to launch into a new online business – one I didn’t plan but seems to be God’s intention. He promises that my path will be bright (Proverbs 4:18) and that His thoughts and ways are higher than mine (Isaiah 55:9).

Once again God’s faithfulness to provide for me and to direct my steps gives me hope about all those dreams He has placed in my heart and the future.
