Promises Yield Peace

Lake Louise from the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise by Peg Parker

A new depth of peace rules my soul these days. I attribute it to more complete acceptance of God’s promises for my life and future. Remembering His faithfulness to provide for my home almost 14 years ago fuels faith. His connection for the right job in an advantageous situation in 2012 stokes the fire of belief. Healing of type 2 diabetes – now in full remission as I declared at diagnosis – spurs me to speak His promises for my future.

The Lord has spoken specific promises for my life through His word. He has reassured me over and over that He originated the dreams in my heart about a life partner, writing for His glory, and provision to do as He commands. As I speak those promises over myself from His word, my sense of surety grows, and peace increases. Reviewing and speaking the truth of his promises daily strengthens my belief in His faithfulness.

Feelings of uncertainty and doubt threaten to rout peace. I remind my soul that my enemy’s goal is to steal, kill, and destroy the life God has planned for me. I open my notebook of promises conveniently located on my cell phone and repeat those promises aloud. Hearing them renews my sure and certain knowledge that His purpose for my life cannot be thwarted. The sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross and His resurrection guarantee the results of His work. So, I choose daily to agree with His word as He has written on my heart and in my mind because of the truth:

II Corinthians 1:20 For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. New International Version (NIV) Holy Bible, New International Version®, NIV® Copyright ©1973, 1978, 1984, 2011 by Biblica, Inc.®
