Our God Heals

Alvimann

A friend had a very bad experience. Her husband was promised a job that would have taken care of a number of issues in their life. And then the promise was broken. My friend was very angry. She said things she shouldn’t have said. In hearing her broken soul cry out, I saw a picture of what God does with our brokenness. Perhaps you need to see the picture too.

My friend said she thought God hated her for what she said. I told her He saw her, His beloved child, and that hate was not His response. I saw a child, broken and bleeding, covered in dirt. The Good Father picked her up, dusted her off, wiped away the blood, put bandages on her wounds, and kissed her. Then He said “Try again.”

The blood of Jesus covers all sin, not just the ones before we accepted His sacrifice for us. My friend still suffers from erroneous teaching…freedom from the lies told her about God and His love is my desire for her and others. His first thought toward His creation is mercy, that is why He sent His Son to pay the price for all sin. He wants us free from the cost of our errors, not just eternally but now, so we can have abundant life. Cooperating with the Holy Spirit’s leading and washing ourselves in His Word results in changing our minds so that our behavior can reflect the new creatures we are in Christ. We walk out the change – spiritually it is immediate, but soulfully, it requires patience.

It also requires us to trust that it is God who is at work within us (Ephesians 3:20). We must know that His plan for our lives including our efforts for Him is for good (Ephesians 2:10). And even when we fail and fall, He promises that He will not stop perfecting our character.

Philippians 1:6 I am convinced and confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will [continue to] perfect and complete it until the day of Christ Jesus [the time of His return]. Is there something you’ve done or thought that doesn’t line up with the Word of God and His plan for your life? He is the faithful one and will not give up on you. Indeed, His love never fails (I Corinthians 13).
