My grandmother taught me to love flowers. She was my mother’s mother and an ardent gardener. She had a green thumb and loved her plants in the house as well as all those she cultivated outside in her garden.
But today I’m rejoicing that she taught me that cutting those beautiful blossoms and bringing them inside is a blessing not to be missed. And I got to do it long distance for free today.
I had a lot of air miles set to expire at the end of December and decided to do some special things with them. I discovered in September that I could send flowers to my mother for her birthday with air miles. I figured I’d have to pay the tax and delivery charge but it turned out that I had enough miles to cover the entire cost.
So since I still had some left, I sent her what she says is a very beautiful Christmas arrangement. It looked good on the website and she says it’s lovely. I could hear in her voice when she talked about it that she was thrilled. I’m so far away that phone calls are all we have for now. I only get to see her once a year or so. But knowing that I put a smile on her face today when she saw beauty for her home is beyond priceless.
And I can’t wait until Tuesday when my sister gets her thank you for all she’s doing for my mother. She’s the only one left in our hometown and much falls on her shoulders. This was paid for with air miles too. I love giving and getting to do it without plundering my bank account has made it even more fun.
What have you done with air miles that you really enjoyed?
